In the last three years, Canberra's most famous barber has become the father of four daughters: Eva (from wife Camille's first marriage) Twins Franki and Gigi, and Acacia. He's been a homeless teenager, a soldier in Afghanistan, a gridiron player for Australia, a Churchill Fellow, a youth worker on call 24/7 and now a business owner. After leaving home at 15, Zack couch surfed and spent time on the streets, before he set a goal to join the army which turned his life around. He spent tours of duty in Afghanistan before post-traumatic stress disorder saw him medically discharged. So, Zack set himself another goal – to make the Australian gridiron team within 18 months. Remarkably, he was playing in the World Cup in the United States within 17 months. He then trained as a youth worker and was YouthCare Canberra’s first full-time outreach worker. Griffith, ACT 2603 Australia

Rugby union has been a part of Dave's life for longer than he can remember. It was never something he just did on weekends. It became his identity. Dave started playing when he was at Cranbrook after moving to Sydney for school when I was 12, then joined Easts. Eventually he became a manager and a coach at the club. He knew he was gay at about age 17. He struggled to come to terms with what was going on through his late teens, hoping it may have been fleeting bi-sexuality. But he hid his sexuality for 18 years,  struggling with addiction as he tried to cope with the shame he felt. Dave has been in recovery for three years and after some serious soul searching he now wants to tell as many people as possible, mainly blokes, that things are going to be OK. Dave intends to build a resource for presentation to students and rugby players to share his story and raise awareness about toxic shame and why it is important to have genuinely inclusive rugby clubs. Midweekers are available to women and men of all ages who want to come and listen to inspiring stories from our local men, as well as to understand some of the key issues facing young guys in our region. You don’t have to be a guy to come to a Midweeker – just interested in supporting young guys and their families.…
