A terrific line up of inspirational speakers in the 2017 Midweeker series

February 21, 2017

Now in their fifth year, Menslink Midweekers gets famous Canberran men to tell their life stories. Not stories of career success or amazing holidays or experiences they’ve had, but their challenging stories – dark times that they have had to overcome and that have shaped them.

Former Wallaby Clyde Rathbone kicked off the series in March 2013 talking about the debilitating depression he suffered after the end of his rugby career and how he fought through that (and even got back into professional rugby the following year). We’ve had other high profile men from the worlds of politics, sport, business and the community talk about depression, PTSD, growing up with family violence, family suicide, disability or feeling they were never good enough.

This year is no different. Brumby and Wallaby Ben Alexander started the year by talking about how he stays positive and the life lessons he’s learned from some big losses. And we have a terrific line up of speakers ahead:

  • Mick Spencer, Founder and CEO, OntheGo Sports (29/3)
  • Peter Munday, Dealer Principal Lennock Motors (26/4)
  • Tom Calma AO, Chancellor University of Canberra (24/5)
  • Joe Murphy, Chief Officer Rural Fire Service (21/6)
  • Terry Campese, former Raiders Captain & Qbyn Blues Coach (19/7)
  • David Morrison, fmr Army Chief & 2016 Australian of the Year (16/8)
  • John Runko, CEO Independent Property Group (13/9)
  • Matt Napier, Extreme adventurer & Anti-poverty advocate (11/10)
  • Mr John Bale, Founder and CEO, Soldier On (6/12)

Come along to one of our next Midweekers and see what they’re all about. Midweekers are free events (although we do collect donations if you want to contribute) and open to men, women and young people or kids.

Midweekers run every fourth Wednesday starting at 5:30pm with the main talk starting at 6pm. They’re held at Gryphons Bar in Griffith.
