Vicki Dunne hosts reception for Menslink staff, board and volunteers

July 10, 2014

Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Vicki Dunne MLA, kindly invited all the Menslink staff, board members and volunteers to a reception at the Legislative Assembly in Civic last night, to thank us for what we do with young men in the community and to help bridge the gap between community and government. She would like all members of the community to be aware that we are welcome to visit the building and to come to the gallery in the chamber to watch Question Time from 2:15pm on sitting days. The calendar of sitting days and other information about visiting the Legislative Assembly can be found on their website. We were treated to some beautiful local wines (or beer for those not into wine!) and nibblies while we had the chance to talk with Vicki, as well as Leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Hanson MLA and Greens member Shane Rattenbury MLA, Senior Adviser to Vicki Dunne, Clinton White (who is also a radio presenter on ArtSound FM) and other Legislative Assembly staff members.

This unusual piece, created by local artist Bev Hogg, is called the Listening Tree. The ears at the ends of the branches represent the listening ears of the politicians, the roots are the strength of the community and the branches are the social network.

Having the Listening Tree explained to us, we were all ears…
Vicki Dunne, MLA, thanking us for what we do and explaining that the Legislative Assembly is open to us and that members are accessible and there to help.
Menslink Board Chair Peter Clarke, thanking Vicki Dunne for her hospitality.
Staff, mentors, ex-mentors and other volunteers came along.
