Silence is Deadly campaign launch with the Canberra Raiders

December 3, 2012

Tomorrow Education Minister Joy Burch will  launch the Silence is Deadly campaign together with Menslink and the Canberra Raiders. This program is designed to reduce the stigma associated with young men getting help for common mental health issues like depression and anxiety. A quarter of all young men aged under twenty-five will suffer symptoms of depression or anxiety this year.  Only one in ten of them (or one in forty young men overall) will get help, leaving the overwhelming majority suffering in silence, with potentially deadly consequences. More young men die by their own hand each year than die on our roads, with suicide the leading cause of male deaths in every age group from 15 right through to 45.
