SUMMARY:Menslink Midweeker with Ben Farrinazzo
DESCRIPTION:Remarkable physical strength helped Ben Farrinazzo\, former Australian Army officer\, to achieve two gold medals at the Invictus Games. His mental strength is the real story of his success at the Invictus Games. \nMr Farinazzo’s journey to the Games began with his deployment to East Timor in the late 1990s\, something he regards as a highlight of his career because of the deep emotional connection he forged with the locals. However his service left him with emotional scars\, eventually being diagnosed with PTSD. Ben Decided to use sport as a way to get on top of his physical and mental health\, a fall on his mountain bike set him back again after breaking his neck and back in five places. \nIn Hospital\, Ben had to learn to walk again and it was in here that he had some important realisations about how to cope with life’s challenges. \nMidweekers are available to women and men of all ages who want to come and listen to inspiring stories from our local men\, as well as to understand some of the key issues facing young guys in our region. SUMMARY:Menslink Midweeker with Dave Oliver
DESCRIPTION:Rugby union has been a part of Dave’s life for longer than he can remember. It was never something he just did on weekends. It became his identity. \nDave started playing when he was at Cranbrook after moving to Sydney for school when I was 12\, then joined Easts. Eventually he became a manager and a coach at the club. \nHe knew he was gay at about age 17. He struggled to come to terms with what was going on through his late teens\, hoping it may have been fleeting bi-sexuality. But he hid his sexuality for 18 years\,  struggling with addiction as he tried to cope with the shame he felt. \nDave has been in recovery for three years and after some serious soul searching he now wants to tell as many people as possible\, mainly blokes\, that things are going to be OK. Dave intends to build a resource for presentation to students and rugby players to share his story and raise awareness about toxic shame and why it is important to have genuinely inclusive rugby clubs. \nMidweekers are available to women and men of all ages who want to come and listen to inspiring stories from our local men\, as well as to understand some of the key issues facing young guys in our region. You don’t have to be a guy to come to a Midweeker – just interested in supporting young guys and their families. \n  \n
