Picture a young boy, growing up in the Punjab region of India in the 1960’s. There’s only one classroom in the school, a blackboard and a single dedicated teacher. Fast forward to 2018 and that same boy is now an accomplished cross-national PhD qualified academic in plant sciences and has positioned himself as one of Canberra’s most influential educational figures as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Canberra.
What makes someone relocate their family and their life halfway around the globe from Canada for a job and how does education play a role in shaping the lives of young men? Come along to our Midweeker to hear about Professor Saini’s personal and educational journey as he reflects on many issues, including his father’s own educational journey reminding him of the struggles he too faced following his passions.
Midweekers are available to women and men of all ages who want to come and listen to inspiring stories from our local men, as well as to understand some of the key issues facing young guys in our region. You don’t have to be a guy to come to a Midweeker – just interested in supporting young guys and their families.
