Menslink Midweeker featuring Joel Wilson

October 11, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Joel Wilson has a very unique perspective on what it means to be a man. He grew up as a young girl but transitioned to a transgender man as an adult. He has fascinating insights on the pros and cons of being a male in today’s society.

He is a local LGTBIQ advocate who is studying Bachelor of Science at ANU under a Pinnacle Foundation Scholarship. The Pinnacle foundation supports Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex and Queer students who are marginalised or disadvantaged, by providing financial scholarships and mentors. Joel has faced plenty of challenges while coming out and transitioning. He says “I started life as a little girl … I came out as a lesbian, I then came out as a trans man and then as a queer trans man”.

In 2014, he co-founded an organisation called Encampment – a group that runs an annual weekend camp for young people aged 13 to 17 who identify as LGBTIQ in the Canberra region.

Midweekers are available to women and men of all ages who want to come and listen to inspiring stories from our local men, as well as to understand some of the key issues facing young guys in our region. You don’t have to be a guy to come to a Midweeker – just interested in supporting young guys and their families.

Hopefully we can see you there…
