Imagine you are driving up the Hume highway to Sydney and get a phone call instructing you that you are to turn around and fire your brother from his job as head coach for the Canberra Raiders. For Don Furner, this is exactly what happened to him and this is just one of the moments that has shaped who he is today. Every job has its highs and lows – and Don has had plenty of both in his mission to build one of the countries, and this town’s, longest running and arguably best known sporting teams – the Canberra Raiders.
Don has had a long career, history and unwavering commitment to his ‘Green Machine’ rugby league family. Starting out as a ball boy for the team on the sidelines, he has worked and earnt his way up through the ranks and now runs the business of the Canberra Raiders from the CEO’s seat.
Throughout his life he has faced many challenges and helped many young men with their personal and professional struggles. Join us to hear his insights into elite sport, its effects on community and hear stories of the successes and failures along the way.
